Gawd dang, these D2D people shur is a lot of funnin!!. I've never laughed so hard and had so much fun. We had people from all over the world and also recruited many new members. A HUGE thankyou to the entire ScubaDiving magazine staff who showed up. (DocV, we asked them to give you a raise, or aleast a parking spot). About 30 people showed up and I didn't even get all the pictures of everyone they were moving around so fast, worse than getting fish pictures!

ChrisP, DivaDiver, BigD

BigD, Randy, ReefGazer23, Waterbug

Kay, Ellene, DiveCandy, Fugu

DiveCandy, Fugu

Debersole, Amazz, Kim, FlLobsterDiva, Chuckitall

Table shot

CaSDEditor, Fugu, Mr.Kfish, Kfish

{forgot her name, sorry Brad}, BMcGonigle, St.Martin

Waterbug, CaSdEditor, Fugu

Chuckitall, ChrisP

PWuest, DivaDiver

Lots of D2D's

Ellene, Waterbug, DiveCandy

CaSDEditor, St. Martin

And last but not least, this is my favorite picture. As most of you have read, several of our D2D's have undergone PFO heart surgery this year. All of them are done by D2D's own staff cardiologist (you didn't know our board has it's own doctor? ). The 3 women here all have had their PFO's fixed by Debersole. So this is Ellene, FlLobsterDiva, Debersole, & Amazz,,, or as I like to call this picture,,,

Doctor Doug and the P F Ho's.

Very good to see so many old friends and meet new ones. Thanks to John for organizing !
Dr. Doug's Fiji Medical conference disaster tale was great.
Bonnier was well represented which in my opinion augurs well for D2D.
Thanks for providing this venue & resource.
Best wishes for your future plans with Scuba Diving magazine.

GREAT photos, John - thanks so much for posting them for those of us who didn't make it. Great to see everyone and put faces to some of the names.

BWAAAHAHHAHHAHHHAAA on the DEbersole and the P F Ho's.... totally fabulous! (and if I ever *do* turn out to have a PFO, I know where I'm going to get it fixed! :-)

A lot of funnin is right Johnoly!!!  I can't believe the great turn-out and the fact that 3 folks from the magazine turned out just added to the FUN!  Attending DEMA was fun enough, but I would have traveled to Orlando for this party alone.
I've got a few pics from the gala to post too.  I need to recharge the camera batteries when I get home, and I'll post them later on.
Thank you Johnoly!  Robyn

First of all, I had a blast!  And how do you manage do get a picture of me looking ready to kill someboday at every DEMA happy hour?

The two funnies of the night:

Just before the P-F-Ho picture, Chuck asks Ebersole, "Do you ever do any men?"  Chuckles aside, yes the answer is that it's about 50/50.

This one still has me giggling:  Toward the end of the evening, Doug casually stated, "We have to get going, I have a rebreather party to go to tonight."

Honestly, I don't know why I find that so funny.  But only a tech diving cardiologist could get away with a statement like that an not come off as a total geek.  Ha Ha!

I didn't get any of those this time.  However, I do manage to appear completely disinterested and bored in every picture.  Honestly, it wasn't that way!  I had a great time.  Chuck is apparently quite enraptured of me chugging my margarita...and he didn't even buy it for me!  Hmmph.

I think Chuck's "do you do any men" remark way out does Doug's "rebreather party."

As for that, well maybe you all should come out to Hawaii and I'll join you for some diving.

Although the DEMA show seemed to have fewer exhibitors and fewer attendees this year, I still enjoyed the show immensely and found that there was plenty to see and do.  In fact, I didn't get to see and do everything I wanted to in just two short days..but I definitely hit upon the highlights!

I was so busy 'seeing' and 'doing' that I didn't really take any pics during the show, but one kind person used my camera to take this pic at the REEF booth on Friday afternoon:

from left ---> right, reefgazer23(moi!), Anna DeLoach, kfish, wideangle

REEF continues to endeavor to preserve the health and preservation of our reefs by conducting (and instructing on) fish counts, teaching fish ID, studying and educating the public on the threat of invasive species (with lionfish being at the top of the list!), studying Nassau Grouper spawning activity....AND SO MUCH MORE!  Please check them out and help out in any way you can:

Friday was my last day at DEMA and what a better way to end it than to see old friends and meet new ones at the D2D happy hour!

Here's a few of my pics:

left--->right,  ellene, divecandy (occipital view!), Pat, Amazz, Chuckitall, chrisp

left--->right, waterbug, ellene

left--->right, amazz, chuckitall, divecandy, debersole-cut off (sorry!)

It was great having the chance to meet debersole, the doc who mended the PFO's of ellene, amazz, and Pat.  I'm glad that I finally had the chance to speak with him about my potential induction into the PF'Ho' club.

left--->right, fugu, wideangle, kfish

left--->right, st. Martin(Sport Diver Mag), PWuest, CaSDEditor, waterbug

left--->right, Johnoly, Randy

As always, it's great when the D2Ders get together and I can hardly wait for the next event--the lemon shark dives!  Robyn

You are so right, it was a great time and alot of fun to meet up with all the staff!

I know we can't let the cat out of the bag, but talking about some of the future projects with you and David, will be cutting edge and no one has ever done before. The magazine is headed in a bold direction and the staff is going to knock the socks off their readers!!

My lips are sealed!!!

...for missing the get together I should to the rest of you do the same....I didn't make it because:
a. Spending most of the day with Slate will leave you addled, so it was his fault
b. Lola KNEW it was Friday instead of Saturday and didn't tell me even though she KNOWS I am stupid so it was her fault
c. My GPS took me to the right place but didn't tell me the restaurant was INSIDE the mall area, so it's the GPS's fault
and d. I'm stupider than a rock.
So, I'm sorry. I wanted to see y'all, say hi to y'all and borrow some money from y'all...
Mike...maybe a rock is smarter.....

Yeah, I want to know what's being planned, too! Just joshing. I've been with the magazine since 1992. I think what's great, as it's being reimagined by a very talented staff at Bonnier--David Espinosa, Jackie D'Antonio and Brad McGonigle--is that it's still the vehicle for ScubaLab, which was the whole reason Rodale, all those years ago, decided to launch a dive mag. They knew it was what made Scuba Diving different (those were the years when Skin Diver reigned supreme). It's been a long road, but the mag's editorial mission remains intact with this crew. And they've got some creative edit planned for the future. Really interesting travel content and lots of advanced experiences. And let us know what you think. We love the Board, and we know you are the people we want to reach.
